Improving Delivery of Haemophilia Care in Central and Eastern Europe

On Friday 27th March 2009 the European Haemophilia Consortium hosted a conference in the Westin Hotel, Warsaw, Poland on Improving the Delivery of Haemophilia Care in Central and Eastern Europe. This conference, organised in collaboration with the Polish Haemophilia Society focused on the European Principles of Haemophilia Care and their application in Central and Eastern Europe as well as addressed the issue of disparities of care in Haemophilia by demonstrating what differences remain between Western, Eastern and Central Europe.

Over 55 delegates from various backgrounds including haemophilia societies, EU and national political experts, clinicians, patients and the industry discussed the provision of optimum haemophilia care including prophylactic therapy for children and access to the full range of safe and effective factor concentrates.

The conference was introduced by Mr. Ad Veldhuizen, President of the European Haemophilia Consortium and Mr. Bogdan Gajewski, President of the Polish National Haemophilia Society. The speakers included, Mr. Boguslaw Sonik, Member of the European Parliament from Poland and a representative from the Polish Ministry for Health.

International speakers included Mr. Mark Skinner, President of the World Federation of Haemophilia, Dr. Paul Giangrande from Oxford, Prof. Christopher Ludlam from Edinburgh and Mr. Brian O’Mahony from Ireland.
