Last Round Table

Economics and Health Outcomes in Haemophilia
Economics and Health Outcomes in Haemophilia.
Wednesday 7 March 2012, 9.30am to 13.00pm.
Radisson Blu EU Hotel, 35 Rue d’Idalie, 1050 Brussels.
In periods of economic crisis and with European Union health budgets under increasing strain it is more important than ever that economic and health technology appraisals take into consideration patients’ views. Indeed, health economic measures when assessing haemophilia treatments are often considered as inadequate, partly due to the lack of consideration that is given to the long-lasting benefits of treatments such as prophylaxis.
The Swedish Reimbursement Institution TLV (Tandvårds- och läkemedelsförmånsverket) did an Assessment on Haemophilia treatment in Sweden. In how far would this affect decisions on treatment in Sweden and in general, was one of the questions that were treated. When assessment has to be derived and concluded from data, we have to take into account that collecting this data is different than for non-rare disease. Euhass gives an example of this kind of data collection.
Participants to the above Roundtable were invited to discuss those current issues faced by haemophilia patients in seeking treatment and how stakeholders and policy makers can help ensure the best possible Health Technology Assessment appraisals in the future.
