Science journal fully retracts study linking XMRV to CFS

The journal Science has retracted a 2009 study that associated the XMRV retrovirus to chronic fatigue syndrome, or CFS, as several subsequent studies have failed to validate the findings. A partial retraction was issued in September, when the Cleveland Clinic said that its findings reported in the original study had resulted from laboratory contamination. "The majority of the authors have agreed in principle to retract the report, but they have been unable to agree on the wording of their statement," wrote the journal's editor in chief, Bruce Alberts.
