Ces g\u00e8nes codent pour un groupe de prot\u00e9ines li\u00e9es qui se trouvent normalement \u00e0 la surface des plaquettes, le r\u00e9cepteur de la glycoprot\u00e9ine IIb\/IIIa (\u00e9galement appel\u00e9 r\u00e9cepteur du fibrinog\u00e8ne). En raison de l&rsquo;absence ou du mauvais fonctionnement de ce r\u00e9cepteur, les plaquettes ne s&rsquo;agglutinent pas les unes aux autres sur le site de la blessure et le caillot sanguin normal a
