Reflecting on 2025: a year of consolidation

As we close the chapter on 2025 and prepare to welcome a new year, we can reflect with confidence that this has been a year of consolidation for the European Haemophilia Consortium (EHC). Throughout 2025, we have strengthened our foundations as a strong, credible and mature organisation, reinforced our collective voice, and further clarified our role in supporting National Member Organisations (NMOs) across Europe.

Our guiding principles for this year — “Towards an inclusive community” and “Be an activist, not only a volunteer” — have shaped our work and reflect both our values and our ambitions. The EHC community is beautifully diverse, and embracing that diversity requires empathy, openness, and a genuine commitment to equity. Only by ensuring that everyone feels seen, heard, and included can we build a community where all people with bleeding disorders truly belong.

2025 has been marked by rapid developments in treatment options. While innovation brings hope, it also brings responsibility. One of our greatest collective challenges remains ensuring that these new treatments become a reality for patients in all European countries — not only in a privileged few. Equity of access must stay at the heart of our advocacy. We must never forget that while new treatments bring significant promise, they also require constant vigilance. Patient safety must always remain our first priority.

To meet these challenges, our NMOs must continue to evolve. Renewal in people, skills, and mindsets is essential. NMOs need to grow as experts, become increasingly autonomous, and be empowered to engage in complex decision-making — always guided solely by the best interests of patients in their countries.

I would like to thank all our NMOs, partners, staff, and volunteers for their dedication and courage throughout 2025. Your commitment has been the driving force behind every achievement, every step forward, and every life touched by our work. As we move into 2026, let us remain united, empathetic, and proactive, working together to build an inclusive, resilient, and equitable future for our community.
